Very cool. Nice design!

Hey, I was just looking at this design and it looks more like a design from the Northern Marianas Islands. Search up the island of Saipan and the latte stones. Our flag has it as well. I myself am from the island of Saipan. It is a very nice design with the turtle perfectly placed in the middle. It could be a polynesian design, but you’d have to ask them if they’ve used latte stones as well. I’m not too sure if they used them, but we are known for our latte stones and it is a symbol for our people. Thanks for the great designs, i’m going to print this out and convert it a little bit. Make my own original piece. I’ll just use it to give me ideas. – Nate

Dear Nate,
Thank you for the terrific feedback. My designs please my artistic eye; but are not culturally accurate. I do not know where my latte stones came from.
I looked back at designs I gathered in French Polynesia; not one latte like shape among them. I Googled Saipan, Marianas and Latte stone;
and learned quite a bit. I must do a design dedicated to the Latte Stone and pay some homage. My blog went live on 3-14-09. You are my first official comment.
Will print it and put it on the wall!! Good luck with your designs. Thanx again, Suzan

Susan,

I think that your designs are GREAT! I especially love the cultural aspect of your designs! Being an Anthropology/Art History Major, I find them both beautiful and useful. I plan to use a few, definitely. Thank you very much for providing them to the public.

Do you do a lot of traveling? I want to go to Peru and that general area someday. I went to Mexico when I was 8, but, a series of events made it hard for me to appreciate it much, at that time. Now I’m wishing that I had “taken a bit more in” or remembered more about it. We did visit the Sun and Moon Temples. Your vision/version of Mayan Art is actually very good. ;-)

All the Best,
Sheryl

Dear Sheryl, the Eclectic Anthropologist,
Thank you for the feedback. I have been away from the blog for awhile; so I am yearning to contribute again. My husband and I have traveled a bit. It really broadens your view of the world. As an anthropologist; I doubt you will stay put very long. As I was researching tattoo history of Polynesia; I discovered that a contemporary Anthropologist, Tricia Allen was instrumental in helping modernize the tattoo trade in the Marquesas. See my article: Part XII- Anthropologists – Keepers of Culture http://www.wardend.com/mytattoos/anthropologists-%E2%80%93-keepers-of-culture-part-xii/
Well that’s the news, suz
